Our Favorite Products: Barr-Co.

The perfect blend of milk, oatmeal, vanilla, and vetiver makes Barr-Co. one of our favorite bath products. Barr-Co. is a line under k.hall designs. The company was started by Kelley Hall-Barr and later her husband, John, joined her to create what k.hall is today. While Kelley took care of the creative side, her husband took care of the business aspect and together they made the perfect duo. The mix of the amazing scent, the packaging, and the story makes Barr-Co. one of our best sellers.

Wrap It Up : July

Versatility is one of the Terra Cotta Woman’s favorite words.  Summer should be carefree and she invests in items that can be used for “this, this, this, and that”.  She expects her choices to have the flexibility to easily adapt from one thing into another and the capability to perform various tasks.  She is proud to remind herself that even she can save money by making a good investment.

On days when she finds herself lounging by the water, or arising from a goodnight soak, the Terra Cotta Woman embraces her European lifestyle by bringing along her beautifully hand loomed Turkish towel, or what some may call a pestemal.

Lightweight, absorbent, and quick to dry, this European necessity is considered a traditional handicraft.  Produced entirely by hand and intricately woven on looms, the yarns obtained by the processing of fibers cocoon and then vitalize, creating the most beautiful pestemals.

The elegant Turkish towel can be made from linen, cotton, or bamboo. They are incredibly durable and will not hold onto dust.  Their simple and neutral color palettes reflect light, while keeping you cool.

The Terra Cotta Women always has a turkish towel on hand for a picnic, a sprint through the Ellis Square Fountain, or a trip out to Tybee. It transitions to be the center of attention as a table runner at her summer soiree, or a decorative towel in her Greecian bathroom.  She may even wear it as a throw for an evening film at Trustees Theater.

These pestemals are considered a traditional Turkish “his and her” wedding gift and essential to the Terra Cotta lifestyle. Wouldn’t they be a great gift for your Fiber friends who would swoon over the fine hand loom work?  Yes, they will last just like your heirloom wardrobe pieces and live far beyond their expectations, just like the our favorite Hobo International handbags.  These towels become more beautiful with age, much like the Terra Cotta Woman herself.  Bellissimo.

Farewell to July and a summer near it’s end.  We know that the Turkish towels will become your dear friend.  Let’s wrap it up and we hope to see you soon again.

Ciao, Terra Cotta

Lifestyle : June

Can you taste it?  That tangy sweetness from the Italian gelato while it’s cold kiss grazes your lips?  June is for indulgence.  It’s for giving treats to yourself as much as you’re giving to those around you.  June is for being aware of your senses, like the smell of the greenery after a noon rain shower.

Whether she finds herself physically there, or in a mirage from the Savannah humidity, the Terra Cotta Woman spends her day walking alongside the colorful casas of Italy’s Cinque Terre, while the music from Hotel Costes creates our summer soundtrack.  Our oasis awaits us…

June has us thinking about the father-figures in our life and how to celebrate them. It could be the humble mailman, our zany grandfather, or the whistler we always hear at the Forsyth Farmers’ Market.  Our current selection of shaving soaps from Caswell-Massey, an All-American company that has been around since 1752, is our go-to recommendation for keeping dad and the hubby smelling good!  Enriched with natural palm and coconut oil, the soap is available in eucalyptus and almond scents.

Imagine yourself on the “seafront of Tel Aviv, when everyone is out enjoying beer, loud music and often a heated conversation”  That is how Yotam Ottolenghi’s describes his Watermelon and Feta recipe from the book Plenty, which is available at the boutique! “The sweet juiciness of the watermelon and the crumbly saltiness of the feta gives this salad all its character.”

Ingredients :

  • 10 oz feta
  • 4 1/2 cups large chunks of watermelon
  • 3/4 cup basil leaves
  • 1/2 small red onion, very thinly sliced (optional)
  • olive oil
    1. Slice the feta into large but thin pieces, or just break it by hand into rough chunks.

    2. Arrange all the ingredients, except the olive oil, on a platter, mixing them up a little.  Drizzle over some oil and serve at once.

If you find yourself at Tybee Island instead of Tel Aviv, the Terra Cotta Girls are currently loving the Tybee Island Social Club (the Manchego Skillet is heavenly!) Perhaps your mirage is a little more mid-town, let Savannah’s Sol Fusion Restaurant be your oasis.  We recommend to check them both out!

We hope to see you in the store soon, enjoying and indulging in all things well deserved!

      Ciao, Terra Cotta
